Autism in the Family -- A Journey
Autism in the Family -- A Journey is about how Peter and then Diane are diagnosed. Exerpt: Peter at his assessment was very out of control so at the next sessions we had the head of the department. It took a long time to get him to talk. She was about to give up, but then she tried a computer with a touch screen, a very new invention. That did it. Touching and saying the word made it concrete enough for him ...

Exerpt: I had been up late at the computer and I had been researching autism and I felt that I knew the answer to everything, and that I needed to email it to someone. Then I felt that I needed to turn off the lights in everyone's room or it would harm them. Then as I was turning off the light in the living room there was a bright light that snapping in my brain and I went down to my knees. I was terrified and went to bed.
GETTING BACK MY SANITY
I wrote this book partly to get rid of the demons left over from my first marriage, but mostly because I believe strongly in the positive attributes of Mental Illness and Autism. I believe in the positive of most things. Negative thinking never got anyone anywhere especially when we are in the depth of depression and in an abusive marriage.
some excerpts from my book --
As it turns out though the "Gift of Mental Illness" is the was finding this group which was my support group that enabled me to leave my husband. .... the people we find in support groups that help us develop our self-esteem that helps us get away from triggers and out of our bad relationships.
Now I see "The Joy of Autism" kicking in. A "Typical" probably would run not walked in the opposite direction. However, I just throw it to another part of my brain, and say I will think about it later, which in this case is probably 15 years later which I am divorcing him, or he has hit me when I am pregnant, and I finally see a pattern.
